It's one of my favorite spots on the island.īe sure to pick up the map at the Tourism Bureau to carry along. I'd allow 2-3 hours if you walk this route, but last week when I did it the weather was cool and I was soon rolling up my sleeves.īy the way, you might as well see Anne's Tablet if you are on Huron Road near the Fort. From theere you can either take the stairs down to the road or walk back via Huron Road to see the East Bluff cottages. After some pics, take the stairs down to get a closer look at Sugar Loaf.Īfter that, go on either Sugar Loaf Rd or North Bicycle Trail to Rifle Range Road which will take you to Arch Rock. Then come back to Point Lookout which overlooks Sugar Loaf Rock. Holmes which has a great view of the island. To get a good workout, Hike up Fort Street and continue on Custer Road past the cemeteries to Ft.

I'd get pics (around MP1 on 185) looking up and then see it from above later. The hike up the stairs is pretty exhausting. Views that can't be beat! Have a great time! We love going to the trail that begins at the top of Arch Rock, Tranquil Bluff Trail. I would suggest discovering some of the other trails too, if you have time. You can also pick this up at the visitor's center in town. Here is a great map of the Island's trails. This amazing site to see was formed during the nipissing post-glacial period, a period of high Lake Huron water levels following the end of the Wisconsin glaciation. It is a small road, but well marked road, that takes you straight to Sugar Loaf. One of the most photographed spots on Mackinac Island, Arch Rock, a geological formation of a natural limestone arch, is a truly breathtaking and wonderous attraction. You can go past Mission Point, come at it from the shore and take the steps up, go past the Fort and take the bicycle trail to the Arch, or go up the East Bluff and see those wonderful views, and follow Huron Road from there.įrom Arch Rock to Sugar Loaf, take Rifle Range Rd north from the Arch (toward the interior of the Island) and you will soon see Sugar Loaf Rd. There are so many ways to get there and each are very different. It really depends on what you want to see to get to Arch Rock.

Depending on how quickly you walk, I would say the whole trip would be about an hour, without taking into account time to look at the scenery.
